The Division of Student Affairs

Gweru Polytechnic is a fast growing institution that aims to produce healthy, highly skilled and patriotic personnel who satisfy the demands of the community. The Polytechnic is home to a diverse population of students from within Zimbabwe and from neighbouring countries such as Namibia, Botswana and South Africa among other countries. The Division of Students Affairs is responsible for the holistic development of all students by addressing various aspects of their social well being and skills development relevant to the student population. The Division’s core functions include training and development of student leadership, co-ordination of student life events, supporting student governance structures such as the Student Representative Council (SRC) and guidance and counselling. The Division responds to any query that students and parents bring and other stakeholders are encouraged to contact the Division at any time in the interest of their education.
Our priorities involve ensuring a quality learning experience for all learners through providing adequate and appropriate academic support to learners, enabling them to realise their full potential. The Division is needs-driven aiming to enhance student success by identifying and addressing social problems which include trauma, abortion, unintended pregnancy, substance abuse etc. Campus life at Gweru Polytechnic is equipped with social clubs such as Christian Union, Debate Association, Rotaract Club and Health and Life Skills Committee which provide a much needed support system for students.

The Rotaract Club
The Rotaract Club is a charity organisation under Rotary International. The club was founded in June 2010 by students and their patron Ms Constance Janhi who was later joined by Mr John Majoni in 2012. The Club aims to help the community and nation at large in assisting under privileged individuals to overcome various circumstances. The club partakes in various activities as such car washing and cleaning up campaigns for the purpose of raising funds to assist needy individuals such as those with complex medical conditions and fees payment. Over and above, the club occupies the youth during their spare time and this reduces their involvement in illegal activities.

The Debate Association
The Debate Association of Gweru Polytechnic was founded by Mr David Chiondegwa in 2011 and the team participated at the Zimbabwe National Debate Championships (ZNDC) 2011 held at the Chinhoyi University of Technology where Gift Lungu (SRC President 2012) and Flavian Madziva (President Rotaract Club 2012) made it to the finals.
